Purchasing Agent

Founded in 1980, SCP SCIENCE is manufacturer and distributor of analytical equipment, supplies, reagents and certified reference materials for the inorganic analytical laboratories market.

SCP SCIENCE is currently seeking an Purchasing Agent individual who is interested in a long-term career within a professional working environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for all of the company’s payable activities. 

Reports to:                 Finance Director

Place of work:            Baie D’Urfé (Montréal), Québec, Canada

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITES

  • Source and negotiate pricing with suppliers;
  • Manage, issue and revise purchase orders;
  • Enforce commercial terms & conditions and all contractual requirements;
  • Prepare offer evaluation summaries and make vendor recommendations;
  • Follow up and expedite suppliers on deliveries;
  • Respond to or facilitate suppliers questions;
  • Communicate with Project team and engineers for project details (budgets, requisitions, specifications, delivery dates, etc.);
  • Follow procurement procedures and spend approval policy;
  • Analyze spend data and identify key vendors for contracts;
  • Work closely with accounts payables to reconcile invoices and provide supporting documentation;
  • Ensure suppliers have the appropriate documentation to proceed with work;
  • Ensure suppliers submit all required quality documentation;
  • Assist suppliers or procurement team with creation of packing lists;
  • Organize and award the transport (freight) for small shipments to customers (local, international), as required;
  • Support the field for urgent purchases;
  • Reporting as required by department or senior management;
  • Cross functional training as required;
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

COMPETANCIES AND SKILLS

  • 3-5 years of experience in a purchasing role;
  • Demonstrated experience in negotiating prices and terms and conditions;
  • Experience with ERP purchasing software, an asset;
  • Experience with purchase of materials, parts and services in the chemical industry, an asset
  • Intermediate to Advanced level of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel;
  • Ability to priorities tasks and work under pressure;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Demonstrated positive relationships with internal/external customers;
  • Knowledge of market trends and purchasing best practices;
  • Employs fair, ethical and transparent procurement practices;
  • Proficiency in English and French.
  • Legal status to work in Canada is required.
